No-Gap Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program

Macquarie University Hospital has partnered with HCF and Medibank to provide eligible patients access to our ‘No-Gap’ Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program*. See below for inclusions. Eligibility criteria apply.

Participating doctors have agreed to charge fees within the limits set by our partners, allowing you to focus on your recovery without worrying about unexpected medical bills. Download our brochure to view participating surgeons.

Eligible patients have no out-of-pocket costs* for:

  • assessment at our Pre-Admission Clinic
  • hip and knee replacement surgery with a participating surgeon
  • anaesthetist and assistant surgeon costs
  • hospital accommodation and theatre costs
  • diagnostic tests while admitted (scans and blood tests)
  • post-surgery rehabilitation at home.

*Hospital excess may apply. Patient eligibility and terms and conditions apply. The program is proposed to end on 30 September 2025 for HCF members and is subject to review prior to renewal.

Getting started

Patients ready to speak to an orthopaedic surgeon about a hip or knee replacement can find fund-specific information, including applicable Medicare reference numbers, within the HCF and Medibank terms and conditions. You will then need to follow the process below.

  1. Contact your health insurer to check:
    1. your eligibility for hip/knee replacement, including level of coverage and waiting periods
    2. the hospital excess applicable to your health insurance.
  2. Make an appointment with your GP to request a referral to a surgeon who participates in your fund’s ‘No-Gap’ hip/knee replacement. View our brochure to see participating surgeons.
  3. Book an appointment with your surgeon. Note: Private consultation fees are not included in the ‘No-Gap’ Joint Replacement Program.
