The Clinic provides a range of services to adults, children and families. Our services are expanding and are provided in response to the needs of the community. There can be wait lists for all services.

Our services include:

  • therapy for adults, children and families
  • psychometric assessments
  • career assessment services
  • group ADHD programs for adults
  • group programs to improve children's social skills.

The clinic provides therapy to adults, children and families.

Adults
  • therapy for emotional problems such as anxiety, phobias, depression, eating disorders, alcohol management and ADHD etc
  • parenting skills training
  • counselling for relationship problems, low self esteem, bereavement, life stresses and career choice etc
  • group programs for ADHD.
Children and adolescents
  • assessment and treatment for child and adolescent behavioural and emotional problems (including family therapy)
  • group programs to teach social skills to children in years 3-6 in primary school.

Please Note: The wait lists for individual therapy (all ages), the adult ADHD group program and the Social Skills group program (for ages 8-12 years) are currently open.

* Reduced rates are available for clients who are currently full time tertiary students/unemployed.

* There are no session limits at the Clinic, however, we are not eligible for the Medicare or private health fund rebate.

Adults
  • Psychometric assessment of cognitive functioning (including intelligence, memory and learning), undertaken by Provisional/Psychologists in Clinical Psychology (where brain impairment is not suspected, e.g., to establish strengths and weaknesses).
  • Personality, Career, Resilience and Leadership Assessments for Career development by Provisional/Psychologists in Organisational Psychology.
Children and adolescents
  • Psychometric assessment of cognitive functioning and assessment to establish strengths and weaknesses related to learning disabilities, undertaken by Provisional/Psychologists in Clinical Psychology.

Please Note: Due to COVID-19, we are not able to conduct Psychometric Assessments for 4-5 year-olds at this time. However, please feel free to check back on our website for an update in January 2022.

The wait list for Psychometric Assessments (6 years and above) is currently open.

Career Advantage MQ Service

Macquarie University's Career Advantage MQ is a professional vocational advisory service delivered by Masters of Organisational Psychology provisional psychologists (supervised by Endorsed Organisational Psychologists) using the latest career assessment tools.

The Career Advantage MQ Service offers a set of academically-led assessments that brings out your interests, values and motivators. This information is used in conjunction with your professional experiences, interests and training to make a plan so that you can move towards a more satisfying career pathway.

The Career Advantage MQ Service offers clarification and advice for:

  • what are your strengths and capabilities
  • what drives and motivates you
  • what work areas to focus on in the future
  • what are the next steps in your career planning.

The Clinic is offering this service for $240. This special offer includes:

  • one hour telephone interview regarding Career & Interests background
  • online questionnaire and profiling
  • report which summarises the findings and lists preferences and motivations
  • one-on-one coaching session with one of our careers advisors (provisional psychologist) which involves going through the assessment and setting some goals and planning for future career direction.

Manage your Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

An 8-week, evidence-based, interactive group program for adults with ADHD.

Manage your ADHD is an engaging and interactive program designed to increase participants' skills across a range of areas particularly important to adults with ADHD, including:

  • motivation
  • organisation skills
  • concentration
  • problem solving
  • managing frustration
  • relapse prevention
  • listening skills
  • self esteem.

The program is facilitated by a team of provisional psychologists under the supervision of an endorsed clinical psychologist.

Duration

Groups are run regularly, dependent on client numbers.

Cost

The program costs $300 (non-refundable $50 payable at the initial assessment, the remaining $250 payable before the first night of the group).

Improve your social skills

The Psychology Clinic runs a social skills program modelled on the well-researched Australian social skills program ‘STOP THINK DO' (Peterson, 2002). The program is offered to children who are in grades 3-6 and includes sessions for both children and parents.

The program is facilitated by a team of provisional psychologists under the supervision of an endorsed clinical psychologist.

Sessions for children cover topics such as:

  • getting to know people
  • understanding and communicating feelings
  • solving social problems
  • assertive, co-operative and friendly behaviours
  • dealing with teasing and bullying.

Sessions for parents cover topics such as:

  • goal setting
  • understanding and accurately observing child behaviour
  • reinforcing the positives
  • active listening
  • helping children with social problem solving
  • behaviour management
  • helping children deal with bullies.
Duration

The sessions run after school for 8 weeks. Each session is 1.5 hours. Generally 3 therapists will facilitate the child program, while 1 or 2 therapists administer the parenting program. It should be the same parent attending each week for the parenting sessions.
