Important information for non-Australian residents

At MQ Health, we welcome international students and patients.

International students and patients must have the right level of insurance cover to minimise out-of-pocket fees at private hospitals.

Overseas students on student visas will need an Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) policy.

Some exceptions may apply, so check with the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs website  to find out the requirements for your country.

OSHC policies help to cover the cost of hospital and medical treatment, certain medications and ambulance services.

To check what your OSHC policy covers, contact your insurer. You can find a registered OSHC insurer on the privatehealth.gov.au website.

International patients may be covered under their travel insurance or may purchase Overseas Visitors Health Cover (OVHC).

OVHC is a form of health insurance for international patients.

OVHC policies help to cover the cost of hospital and medical treatment, certain medications and ambulance services.

Medicare

Some international patients may be eligible for Medicare under their country's reciprocal health care agreements. To check if you are eligible, visit Services Australia.

Please note that, even if you are eligible for Medicare, you will still need to have a health insurance policy.

Payment and claims

For all specialist services, you will need to pay upfront and then seek reimbursement from your insurer or overseas healthcare provider.
