Frequently asked questions

How long are consultations?
Consultations generally take between 45 minutes to one hour.

How many consultations do I need prior to surgery?
Patients generally need two appointments prior to surgery. The initial assessment appointment as well as pre-operative appointment generally takes place one to two weeks before your procedure.

Do I need a referral?
No but some procedures are eligible for rebates. Your consultation may be partly rebatable from Medicare if you have a referral from your GP. Please note, purely cosmetic consultations are not eligible for Medicare rebates.

Will health insurance cover some costs?
If a procedure is under the coverage of Medicare and not for purely cosmetic purposes, you may be able to claim a rebate for the procedure and hospital fee from your health insurance provider. It is your responsibility to determine if you are covered and if there are any additional fees you may have to pay.

Are there any pre-operative instructions?
We will provide you with an information sheet specific to your procedure to prepare for your procedure. This will advise on medications that need to be ceased and when to refrain from eating and drinking.

Do I need a pre-operative assessment?
For major surgeries, you may need to undertake a pre-operative assessment to ensure you are fit for surgery and not constrained by any existing or past medical conditions. This check will be initiated by your doctor during the consultation process.

When can I be discharged from hospital?
This can vary depending on the type and complexity of the procedure, as well as how fast your body recovers. Some people heal faster than others so it is important to prepare for a longer hospital stay if your body needs it.

When is my first post-op visit?
Usually one week after procedures of most types, but it can vary on a range of factors. An optimal follow-up schedule will be determined by your doctor during the consultation process. You will never be required to attend follow-ups more than necessary to ensure the outcome has been achieved.
